Frequently Asked Questions

Individual Therapy Services

Do you provide in-person therapy services?

I unfortunately do not. My practice is entirely telehealth, using Zoom (HIPAA-compliant). I am licensed to provide therapy services in California. I cannot treat clients who are traveling or living outside of California.

How often would we meet?

Individual therapy sessions are weekly or every-other-week and are 30-55 minutes long. If at any point during the therapeutic process we decide that you need additional support (a higher level of care), I will provide you with appropriate referrals.

How do I know if you’ll be a good fit for me as a therapist?

So much of therapy depends on the therapeutic relationship. It’s important to feel comfortable talking to your therapist and feeling like (even if not at first) you have the potential to open up. Please feel free to schedule a 15-minute consultation with me so that we can talk over video and you can make a more informed decision.

What if we start meeting and I don’t feel like therapy is working or it’s a good fit?

It’s important to acknowledge that it will likely take some time to build trust between us, so you may not see a huge amount of progress in the first couple of sessions. Ultimately though, you’re in the driver’s seat. If you feel like you want to stop working with me or want to find a different therapist, let me know. I will do my best to provide referrals to other therapists whom I think may be a good fit.

Do you take insurance or do I have to pay out-of-pocket?

I take many different health insurances as well as offer private pay. Please note that I won’t be able to confirm whether or not I am covered under your insurance plan until my admin team checks with your insurance. One health insurance that I definitely do not take is Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS).

How can I reach you in an emergency?

I do not provide immediate crisis services or after hours support, however can provide you with referrals for those services. I will return all calls and texts to the best of my ability within 24-48 hours. In the case of an emergency, such as a threat to your safety or to someone else’s, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Trainings

I’m not seeing a training that I would like to do, but I want to learn more.

Please email me at alexrhodeslcsw@gmail.com requesting more information. Also feel free to schedule a 15-minute consultation with me if you would prefer coordinating over video or phone rather than email.

Are these trainings something that can be done on a regular basis?

Yes, however that will depend on our agreement. Please email me with information about your requested training at alexrhodeslcsw@gmail.com.

Are these trainings in-person or virtual?

All of the available trainings are virtual, usually conducted via Zoom.

Commissions/Art

I’m not looking for therapy or a training for myself, but I would like to support you and your work. How can I do that?

You can feel free to donate by buying me a coffee or by commissioning art from me on Ko-fi. In my free time, I engage creatively with different mediums, most recently creating digital art with my Wacom tablet. I make art for myself, but I would love to make something for you if you want to commission a piece from me.

Is your commissioned art physical or digital?

The art that I create is typically digital, however if you would like a physical piece, feel free to message me on Ko-fi or email me at alexrhodeslcsw@gmail.com.

Keeping in Contact

I’m not looking for therapy or a training or art right now, but I would like to stay updated and keep in contact with you to find out what you’re working on. How can I do that?

I will be sending out a regular email/newsletter monthly, so feel free to sign-up for the email list below.

Also feel free to follow my instagram at @alexrlcsw. I’m attempting to post regularly there.

You can also feel free to email me at alexrhodeslcsw@gmail.com to ask me specific questions about what I’ve been up to.
